Deep Lens Survey : Real-time Transient trans138

Return to Main Transient Page

Time-series of a transient event. The left column represents a sequence of images including transient trans138. The sequence increases in time down the page. The highlighted row indicates the object was discovered in this image. Each mosaic shows the template image, the image with the transient, and a difference of the two. It is possible we do not have a difference image (i.e. the template observation), in which case we display a single observation. Each component of the mosaic is 200 pixels (50''), and East is up and North to the right.

The second column gives the UT date and time (and MJD) of observation start for the images containing the transient, filter used, and an estimate of the magnitude of the variability in this filter, determined from the SExtractor MAG_BEST parameter and a zero-point comparison using the USNO catalogue. While the magnitude zero-points are accurate to only 0.1 in R and B, and 0.5 in V and z, these magnitudes are relative to nearby stars and thus the variations with time are more accurate. Transients also include the RA and DEC (J2000) of each object in each observation, to 0.5'' accuracy.
